The Great Wall of China – some people say you have to see this giant, surrealistic monument once in your lifetime, some parts are more than two thousand years old. We began our adventure on a very cloudy day. Almost no tourists, the air full of mist and the walk up was pretty steep, wet and mystical at the same time. Overwhelming place! Half an hour later when we reached the wall we couldn’t see anything except twenty meters in every direction of the path. Another guy with a big heavy backpack who climbed the wall alongside of us, asked us if we can take some nice pictures of him how he walks the wall back and forth. So we did this and he showed us his whole program of Instagram poses. Very funny! In total he stayed only 10 min., left the wall and went back to Beijing to catch his flight back home. It’s interesting how some people visit places only for a picture. However – we had a beautiful time, the weather changed during the day and the sky cleared up a bit when we arrived at tower 20. As a reward to climb that far you could write your name in a book and receive a medal with your name scratched on it. At the end of the restored part of the wall we discovered the secret entrance to the wild part of the wall. This part was even more amazing: trees and bushes were growing on the wall and find their way even through some towers. The hike on the wall winds through the forest and over ridges. We met almost no tourists and enjoyed this quiet part very much. Have a look and enjoy…
