Did you ever hear about Kunming, the provincial capital of Yunann? Neither did we, before we decided to travel to the province Yunnan. After spending exciting, but also exhausting days in Beijing we wanted to see another part of China before our visa expires. We had some troubles trying to extend our visa, so we only had a bit more than two weeks left to visit some parts of Yunnan before we had to leave the country. To save some time we decided to fly to Kunming and explore from there. Good choice, flight was cancelled without any infos given to us about when the next flight will leave. So we came back to the airport the next day and tried to catch another flight and had more than ten hours delay. But in the end we managed to get to Kunming.
When we arrived in Kunming we were surprised how big the city actually is. Take the population of Berlin, Hamburg and Munich and you will get the population of the metropolitan area of Kunming. And it is only one of more than hundred cities in China which have more than a million inhabitants. We didn’t stay that long, but it was nice to explore some parts by just randomly walking around, discovering lively markets, watching crabs escaping the hot pot and making plans for the next days.
