After spending relaxed days at the countryside of Imereti we jumped on the Marschrutka again and went to Las Vegas of Caucasus – Batumi. Batumi is one of the main port cities of Georgia and at the same time a very popular seaside resort. Gambling is one attraction of this vibrant, diverse city. High skyscrapers are popping up everywhere and the coast is lined with luxurious hotel chains. Besides those modern, contemporary architecture, Batumi has a well restored, historical Old Town with classical 19th-century buildings.
We were quite impressed that this touristic place has so much to offer. The day we arrived we were spontaneously invited by a hand full of Georgians – they were celebrating a 41st birthday. Before we realized what happened we already sat at their table with bowls of Georgian wine in our hands. At the same time one of the guys prepared shots of Chacha for us – gagimardschos. They also shared the food with us. Hospitality par excellence. Surprisingly everything was over after half an hour and we left, a little drunk, the restaurant together with the Georgians.
Our paths parted again and we continued exploring the city. We stopped at a big open square with some odd sculptures, where we met a scooter gang performing some stunts, saw the dancing fountain show with loud croaking of frogs in the background, took some photos during the night at the beach and Felix peed on ice cubes in an urinal.
Next days we visited the botanical garden close to Batumi and ate fresh trouts close to the harbor. We bought the fishes at a small fish market and next to it was a cafe where the chef grilled our trouts and served them with delicious traditional side dishes. What a culinary delight.
We hope you enjoy our pics!
Filipinki were the first polish girlband from the 1960s. Among others they performed the famous Batumi song, which we discovered during our stay. Later we learned that this song shaped the positive image of Batumi among the Poles.
We simply love that song even if I only understand a little Polish. Enjoy it!
